The Gorgon project is an easy-to-use and lightweight feed aggregator software.
Gorgon is an upcoming feed aggregator that is known for its lightweight and simplistic approach. However, it currently only supports RSS feed types, specifically versions 0.9x and 2.0. In the next release, Gorgon plans on incorporating Atom and RDF feed types, providing more options for its users.
The main philosophy of Gorgon is to do the job it was designed for as efficiently as possible. Therefore, Gorgon does not have a built-in web browser or various file type downloaders, as there are already numerous tools that do these tasks very well.
The current status of development is still in its initial phase, which means that it may experience bugs, crashes, or even the occasional playing of Morbid Angel in your sound set. Until there is a tool for reporting these issues, users can contact Gorgon's developer by email if they encounter any problems.
Gorgon has a few requirements to function optimally, such as FLTK. Currently, the only method of installation is to build Gorgon from the source code. Additionally, the only tested platform for Gorgon is Linux; however, support for WinXX is on its way.
To build Gorgon, one must first download and build the "jam" utility before running "./jam" in Gorgon's source directory. If the user already has ftjam installed on their system, they can skip this phase and run ftjam directly. There are a few options in the Jamfile, with the most interesting options being "jam" and "jam gorgon" that build binary and application tests or binary only, respectively.
Before running the jam tool, users can modify the default values in the "Jamconfig" file located in the source directory if dependent libraries are placed in non-default paths. Once the compilation process is complete, head into the "src/" directory and run "./gorgon" to start using the feed aggregator. As of now, there is no official installation part for Gorgon yet.
