"Automate the collection and analysis of software with Hackystat framework." (12 words)

Developed by Philip Johnson
If you're looking for a framework that can automate the collection and analysis of software engineering product and process data, Hackystat might be the perfect choice for you. This software doesn't require developers to manually collect product and process data, as it relies on sensors to do the job in an unobtrusive way.

With Hackystat, there's no need to limit yourself to a specific tool, application or process. This framework gives you the freedom to work with the tools you prefer and adapt the system to your own development procedures.

The Hackystat project is designed to provide in-process project management support, and it's now in its sixth major architectural release family. Its first architecture release family, called the "Spike Solution", was developed to explore the feasibility of the approach, and evaluate different component technologies. This was followed by the "Framework Architecture", which implemented package and class-level patterns, but it had some limitations in terms of sensor and analysis modifications, only allowing a single configuration of data.

The "SDK" (or "kernelized") architecture was later introduced, which allowed developers to implement new sensors and analyses without modifying the kernel code, and multiple Hackystat installations could be built with different configurations. A major package restructuring facilitated the development of the "Three Layer" architecture, which was followed by the "Component Architecture" release, with extensive build support to combine multiple components into a configuration for release.

Finally, the latest release, the sixth architectural family, provides telemetry-based services to support software project monitoring and control. It includes caching mechanisms and the hackyTelemetry package that includes a telemetry specification language and associated APIs.

The most recent version of Hackystat also comes with some notable updates, including a new sensor for IntelliJ Idea, improvements to the Visual Studio sensor, better support for test-driven development inference, and fixes for several bugs.

Overall, Hackystat is a powerful and flexible framework for collecting and analyzing software engineering product and process data, offering developers an effective in-process project management tool.
