HandySaw DS

HandySaw DS is a must-have software program for anyone working with nonlinear editing (NLE) software. It is designed to help speed up the digitalization process by detecting scene changes in source material, which is commonly captured as one or multiple large files. This program offers two methods of scene detection: Optical Detection and Date of Shooting.

Optical Detection analyzes the content of the video file to detect scene changes, whereas Date of Shooting uses time and date of shooting to search for scenes. There is support for many video formats and the program operates in YUV or RGB color space. This feature-rich software offers a wide range of ways to represent information from splitting into scenes, including copying each scene to a separate file using internal routines or third-party software such as ffmpeg or VirtualDub. Additionally, Final Cut XML, libraries in format PLB and PSQ for Adobe Premiere, EDL files for Sony Vegas and EDUIS, and edition lists in HTML format are all supported.

In addition to this, HandySaw DS supports plug-ins of generation of the result, written on script languages, such as JavaScript or VBScript. The program also features a powerful tool for manual editing called the Manual Trimmer, which enables users to correct automatic partitioning, delete unnecessary scenes, cut off any scene, splice two scenes, divide a scene in the defined place on two, give names to scenes, enter comments to scenes, and place the unnumbered markers that will be accessible in Adobe Premiere.

HandySaw DS can copy each scene in a separate file of the same format without recompression using FFmpeg software. It supports batch mode processing and a command-line interface. Finally, the program can generate reports on splitting a video file, which can be printed out or saved in sequence of BMP files by means of tool Clip Sheet. All in all, HandySaw DS is an excellent software program that comes packed with features and functionality to help you speed up your NLE workflow.
