A user-friendly desktop distribution software called Hedinux, previously known as Octoz, has been created with an independent approach. Its primary goal is ease-of-use.
Hedinux GNU/Linux is a desktop operating system that has been developed independently with the aim of providing users with a straightforward and easy-to-use experience. The distribution comes in two flavors: a minimalist live CD with the XFce desktop, and a netinstall CD that functions as a text-based installer for package installation from a remote FTP/HTTP server. The netinstall CD supports multiple languages, including English, French, and German, while the live CD provides some support for other languages as well.
The fundamental goal of Hedinux GNU/Linux is to create an operating system accessible to all users, whether they are computer-savvy or not. For this reason, Hedinux will come in two editions: one for Linux beginners with an intuitive graphical installer and easy system administration tools, while the other, named "from source", is designed as a modular system with binary packages built by the user directly from source code.
Inspired by the Linux From Scratch and Beyond Linux From Scratch books, Hedinux GNU/Linux has been updated significantly in its latest release. The new update, which includes GNOME 2.14, Xorg 6.9 with the vesa driver by default, and updates to kernel 2.6.15.6, spcaxx 20060301, unionfs 1.1.3, squashfs3.0, among other updates.
Bugs in the previous versions have been fixed in this release, including the sshd startup, foomatic-db-engine dep for gimp-print, and the GNOME icon suitably replaced by the Hedinux icon for the GNOME menu. Additionally, hedinux-installer has been updated with new features, including alphabetical order keyboard, verbose packages copy, and network configuration before the installation.
Finally, GRUB installation on MBR/root/floppy is now available in Hedinux GNU/Linux, and the system allows for a hedinux-netcardconfig icon in the Desktop->Administration GNOME menu for network configuration after installation.
