The HelenOS project represents a comprehensive attempt to create an operating system that adheres to the specific demands of the HelenOS specifications. With support for a range of processor architectures - including AMD64/EM64T (x86-64), IA-32, IA-64 (Itanium), 32-bit MIPS, 32-bit PowerPC and SPARC V9 - HelenOS is capable of enabling SMP, multitasking and multithreading across both big and little-endian, 32-bit and 64-bit platforms.
This project is the brainchild of students hailing from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University in Prague. Under the BSD license, the source code powering HelenOS is readily accessible to anyone who wishes to make use of it, while third-party components are made available under GPL.
