Help Me Write is a helpful software developed for visually impaired users to make typing and reviewing text easier. This software features a large font that enables users to hear words as they are typed. Additionally, the text can be reviewed either by listening or viewing the large and easy-to-read letters. Once satisfied, the text can be pasted into an email or document using the same style as the email or document.
The Help Me Write window is designed with a large text area, slider, and five pushbuttons. The first time the software is launched, the text window is filled with helpful information. It is recommended that users make the window larger by dragging the bottom right corner and read about the utility before using it.
The "Speak to End" button can be clicked anywhere in the text, and all text from the cursor to the end will be read aloud. If the Shift key is held down, the caption for the "Speak to End" button changes to "Speak All," and clicking on the button will result in all text being read. If a user selects text, then the "Speak Selected" button can be clicked on to have the selected text spoken aloud. To stop the speech, the "Stop Speaking" button can be clicked on.
The "Clear All" button is used to clear the text and clipboard, while the "Text To Clipboard" button is used to copy all text onto the clipboard for pasting elsewhere. The text will be pasted into an email or text document using the document's current font style. The font color, font size, font family, and bold settings can be adjusted in the Input Style Window, which is accessed via the menu bar. To change the system voice, users can access the System Preferences > Speech > Text to Speech.
