Hikarunix is a Linux live CD that focuses on the Asian strategy game Go, and is built on Damn Small Linux. It is designed to provide a simple and optimized environment for playing Go.
Hikarunix Linux is a Live Linux CD distribution that allows any PC to boot to Hikarunix instead of its regular operating system. This is possible because Hikarunix boots entirely in RAM and only borrows the peripherals, meaning that Hikarunix doesn't touch the host machine at all. Additionally, there is no installation or partitioning necessary, and shutting down the machine, popping the CD out, and rebooting will result in the same old OS.
Hikarunix is extremely portable due to its size, fitting on a pocket-sized miniCD, and its ability to boot on just about any machine, such as internet cafes, library computers, and borrowed laptops, making it your personal, temporary Go workstation. What's more, users have the option to install it to their hard drive.
The name Hikarunix was inspired by the Japanese manga and anime series Hikaru No Go, which is about the world of Professional Go as seen by Junior High School student Hikaru and his ghost Go mentor Sai. Hikarunix, covered by the GNU General Public License, is entirely free, and users are welcome to make copies of it for their friends, family, and co-workers.
Hikarunix will always be free, but if you'd like to contribute to the cause, you might consider donating to the project. Moreover, you can also pick up an "official" miniCD, a Hikarunix USB drive, or a plethora of mugs and t-shirts in the project's store.
