HLFL (High Level Firewall Language) is a software that allows you to write firewalling rules using a high-level language. This tool is capable of translating your firewalling policies into rules that can be used with IPChains, NetFilter, IPFilter, Cisco and many more. Originally initiated by Renaud Deraison, the founder of Nessus Project, the project is now maintained by Arnaud Launay and discussed on the HLFL mailing-list.

If you are new to HLFL, you can find many working examples in the provided examples section. Additionally, detailed syntax information can be accessed in the syntax section, making it easy for you to create your custom firewalling rules with HLFL.

This firewall software supports multiple firewalling languages such as BSD IPFw (both stateful and not stateful), Cisco ACL, IPFilter, IPFWadm (Linux 2.0), IPChains (Linux 2.2), and NETFilter/IPTables (Linux 2.4). With HLFL, you can easily create rules for any of these languages without any complexities.

This new release of HLFL includes build-release 1.5, which updates the version number. Furthermore, src/hlfl.c 1.45 feature checks for Cisco mask by Toshio Katayama. Overall, HLFL is an excellent tool for creating high-level language firewalling rules that can be used with various firewalling languages.
