Horgand is a software that can be used as a jack-capable organ client. It comes equipped with presets and a few built-in effects to enhance the overall sound quality.
If you're looking for a jack capable organ client with presets and some effects incorporated, then Horgand may be just what you're after. This program generates sound in real time like an FM synthesizer, allowing you to change the frequency of all the drawbars and add some special effects to suit your needs.
As a first attempt at a DSP program and my first jack client, my results have not yet achieved the level of a programmer. Please note that THIS PROGRAM COMES WITH NO WARRANTY and definitely has many bugs.
While there are many other programs available that emulate an organ and may have better sound quality, I programmed Horgand for my own use and for fun. It is important to note that due to its real-time processing, this program requires a fast computer to run efficiently.
That being said, even as a non-DSP guru, I am happy with the results of Horgand. Despite its occasional "noises," it reminds me of the old organs of the past, which had their own unique quirks and charm.
To run Horgand, you will need to have ALSA (with sequencer), JACK, FLTK (tested and compiled with v1.1.1), Libsndfile, and a MIDI keyboard or virtual keyboard like vkeybd.
The latest release of Horgand includes several new features such as five new waveforms (available for LFO and DSP effects), falling back to ALSA if JACK is not available, and a Sound Bank manager. Additionally, the code has been improved for reduced CPU usage and important bugs have been fixed including correct display of delay time and load presets for older versions.
Overall, Horgand may not be perfect, but it offers a unique and fun experience for anyone looking to experiment with creating organ sounds.
