Invasores

Invasores is a game developed by a group of programmer friends, initially intended as a proof of concept for the best language to use when making games. The game was developed using Python and PyGame. The group had no graphic artists, so the game art was open to contributions from any interested parties.

Python was chosen as the programming language because it was easy to use and prototype. The group had tried using other languages like DirectX, Visual C++, and Delphi, but found that Python made the prototyping process faster and offered a more versatile solution.

The game was initiated in 2002 when a group of colleagues at Fundação Paulo Feitoza began discussing game development. They created a Yahoo group called Gamessa, but no game was produced. In 2003, the group began developing J2ME applications and the discussion on the best language for game development resumed. They ultimately decided to let everyone code in their preferred language and finish a simple game. Invasores was the result, with Nilo Menezes using Python to code the first release, version 0.5, which was released on 22-SEP-2003.

Since then, the game has undergone many improvements, particularly in graphics and the game engine itself. Pygame was better utilized with each version of the game. The latest release includes new levels, graphics, and initial support for other languages such as English, French, and Spanish.

Overall, Invasores proves that Python and Pygame can be an effective combination for game development, and the continued improvements and support for multiple languages suggest that this game has a bright future ahead.
