Isoinfo

I recently had the chance to use Isoinfo software, and I must say that I was impressed. This software is designed to list information about an iso9660 image, making it very useful for those who work with iso images on a regular basis. The usage of Isoinfo is pretty simple – just type in "isoinfo [options] [file]" and you're good to go.

Isoinfo is actually just one of several simple iso9660 utilities that go by the name "iso*." The file iso9660.h is taken from Eric Youngdale's mkisofs package, which is a program that creates an iso image from a directory tree. There's also a program called isoinfo.c that is shipped with xcdroast, but this is actually the program isodump.c by Eric Youngdale. Neither of these programs have anything to do with my isotools, nor with my isoinfo.c or isodump.c.

Youngdale's program is designed to list or extract the contents of an iso9660 image or CD, which can be done with ls/cp (after mounting) these days. However, Isoinfo offers a more streamlined and user-friendly approach to listing information about iso images.

Installation of Isoinfo is fairly straightforward. First, run "./configure" and then "make" for compilation only. If you want to install the binary and manual page, run "make install" (this requires root access). You can also edit the Makefile entries if necessary.

One of the best features of Isoinfo is the recent addition of large file support (DVDs). This makes Isoinfo an even more valuable tool for those who work with larger iso images. Overall, I would highly recommend Isoinfo to anyone who needs to list information about iso images on a regular basis. It's easy to use, reliable, and provides all the information you need to work with iso images efficiently.
