JSView is a Firefox add-on that offers the ability to view the source code of external files swiftly. With this add-on, users can easily access the files to debug or inspect their code without leaving their browser.
I recently discovered the JSView extension and I must say, it's a real lifesaver! As we know, all browsers come with the option to view source code, but none of them offer the ability to view external files' source code. This can get really frustrating, especially when most websites store their scripts and styles in external files, and linking them to the web page's source code.
Before discovering JSView, if we wanted to view the source code of an external javascript or stylesheet, we had to manually look through the source code to find the URL and then type that into the browser. But with JSView, everything is made simple and convenient for us.
You can access the JSView extension from the context menu, toolbar, view menu or status bar. If the website you're on features any external JS or CSS files, an icon bearing initials "SS", "JS", or both will pop up. Moreover, JSView is cross-platform, meaning it works on Mac OS, Windows and Linux. By clicking on the filename, you can view each individual file in a brand-new window.
In the latest version, embedded CSS and JS are now accessible, too. Simply open the "Page Info" window from the context or tools menu. In the window, three new tabs will appear, one for frames, one for scripts, and one for stylesheets. Double click or use the context menu to open them all.
You can even right-click on the "View Page Source" option to open the current page URL with JSView. This allows us to open the source code of any page, either in a new tab or even in an external editor.
One thing to keep in mind is that JSView requires Firefox 2.0 or later. Nevertheless, aside from that, JSView is incredibly useful, convenient and efficient. It simplifies something that would otherwise be a tedious and time-consuming task, and I highly recommend it to everyone.
