To use Katalog, your system must have KDE at least 3.2 and Qt at least 3.1.
The recent release of Katalog makes migrating from an XML file format to a database quite simple. Currently, only SQLite3 has been tested, but the developer believes it is possible to use any other database supported by Qt. The old file format is still supported, and the import/export function is a work in progress.
Navigation through catalogs has been significantly simplified with the recent update. A katalog folder now appears in Konqueror sidebar in the services tab. From there, you can easily locate all catalogs and experimentally navigate through mimetypes. Furthermore, the catalog creation widget now has a progress bar with the option to stop current jobs.
Note that since this new version of Katalog installs numerous configuration files for konqueror, you may need to kill each running instance of it to enable all the functionalities. You can easily achieve this through a logoff/login procedure.
