KDesktop transparency support

As a software reviewer, I have discovered a patch for KDE called KDesktop transparency support. This amazing patch is designed to add real transparency to KDE's kdesktop. With this patch, two new composite manager features are added to activate the kdesktop. The first composite manager feature enables users to change the transparency level of the background image. Presently, it works with the beryl transparent cube, and soon to work with compiz once the transparent cube is effectively implemented.

To activate this feature, simply add the following code to your kdesktoprc:

[Background Common]
BackgroundOpacity=90 (where 0 is fully transparent, and 100 is opaque)

The second feature is designed to allow compiz (and future composite managers) to instruct kdesktop not to paint the background image. This is achieved using the "_COMPIZ_WALLPAPER_SUPPORTED" x atom. When this feature is enabled, compiz will be able to paint a viewport dependent background or an animated one. KDesktop will automatically switch back to normal background anytime there is a change to the x atom. For instance, if kwin gets started or compiz stops rendering the wallpaper, kdesktop will resume normal background painting.

This patch is the latest version of KDE3 svn, and I must say that it has added value to the KDE desktop.
