kiscsiadmin

December 23, 2005
Kiscsiadm is an easy-to-use interface for ISCSI that seamlessly integrates with KDE-Desktop.
Version 0.1.3
License GPL
Platform Linux
Supported Languages English
Homepage kiscsiadm.sourceforge.net
Developed by Matt Rechenburg
Kiscsiadm is a powerful and user-friendly software that provides an intuitive user-interface for ISCSI. It is designed to fit into the KDE-Desktop environment and allows effortless target-discovery, login/logout, and quick access to the connected ISCSI-disks. It offers profile-based configuration management, making it easy to access several ISCSI-server configurations.

As a GUI for common ISCSI-actions, Kiscsiadm makes executing them a breeze with just a few mouse-clicks. It handles target-server connections in profiles, allowing users to switch quickly between multiple, different configurations. Connected ISCSI-devices are listed by a small device-manager, which makes them mountable/ unmountable and easily accessible. The disk-content is displayed via a common file-manager to further enhance ease of use.

It's worth noting that Kiscsiadm is developed in Qt/c++ using KDevelop, aiming to give system-administrators a "swiss knife" when dealing with ISCSI. The software is designed to work with open-iscsi and fit well into the KDE-Desktop environment. Furthermore, it aims to popularise ISCSI to more end-users by providing a user-friendly and powerful graphical interface.

Kiscsiadmin comes with several key features, including Discovery of an Iscsi-target by IP + port number, easy Connection/Disconnection of available targets by double-click, Profile-based organization of the iscsi-target configurations, and it displays connection status in a graphical way. It also features a device-manager that allows quick access to connected ISCSI-disks/partitions.

To use Kiscsiadm, the following requirements must be met: open-iscsi and QT library 3.3.4. The latest release features several bug fixes and improvements. Logout now closes the device-manager, and the wrong filename in "make install" has been fixed. Additionally, a connection wizard widget is now available, proper resize of the main gui and the device-manager has been implemented, and the code has been cleaned up and better organized. The latest version also includes an enhanced Makefile, better versioning, better RPM packaging, and an open-iscsi include dir to includes in Makefile. Finally, a disk-menu (connect-all/disconnect-all) has been implemented, and device-number and size of the disks/partitions are now visible in the device-manager.
