Kiwi

Kiwi is a markup language designed for writing documentation in text editors like Vi or Emacs. Unlike most existing markups, which are designed for wiki/web, Kiwi is meant for long technical documents, with cues like indentation and underlining. Kiwi is one of the few markups engines honed from the ground up for managing document structures while writing tech notes, manuals or other long-form documentation in ASCII format. Additionally, Kiwi can also function as a wiki/web markup engine, sharing some similarities with Markdown.

Kiwi comes with a user-friendly command-line interface that can be easily embedded in applications. It can be integrated into projects like Tahchee and SDoc, both part of the Ivy suite. Kiwi allows developers and technical writers to include rich text markup like codes, sections, references, terms, quotes, images, tables, and multi-level lists in their documents.

The Kiwi markup language is easily embeddable, either through the command line or Python API. One of its standout features is the ability to keep track of the original markup location in the source file, making it easy to update the markup from its HTML representation. An example of adding wiki-links markup to Kiwi was accomplished in under 10 lines of code.
