KMouth

KMouth is a software program that is designed for users who are unable to speak due to a muteness or loss of their voice. The program is built on the KDE framework and is capable of letting users speak through their computer. Currently, the software contains an input field that enables users to type phrases that they want to be spoken. Additionally, the program features a history of spoken phrases, a phrase book, and word completion.

The software makes it possible for users to select frequently used phrases from the history tab and have them re-spoken with only a few mouse clicks. This feature is useful for users who rely on certain phrases in their daily communication. KMouth also allows users to add common phrases to the phrases tab to streamline communication.

KMouth does not come with a built-in speech synthesizer. Instead, the program assumes that the system has a speech synthesizer. Currently, users can choose to use any shell command specified by the user or KTTSD, which is the KDE Text-To-Speech Daemon plug-in-based project. The goal of KTTSD is to provide a standard text-to-speech interface for KDE applications and a user-friendly configuration dialog.
