KSendFile

KSendfile is a native SAFT client that provides efficient file transfer service over the Internet. Unlike Bitnet, the Internet lacked an asynchronous file transfer service. The standard file transfer protocol, ftp, is a synchronous service that requires an interactive login on both ends of the file transfer to initiate a connection.

There are other options to send files from one user to another via ftp, such as uploading to a recipient's account or an anonymous ftp server. However, these methods come with severe security concerns and require common reachable ftp servers for the transfer. Sending a file via email is also possible but limited to English text documents and requires encoding procedures like uuencode or MIME, which are not user-friendly and may not support all file ownership attributes.

To overcome all these limitations and ensure secure and efficient file transfers, the SAFT protocol was developed, and the sendfile software created as a reference implementation for UNIX platforms.

The latest release of KSendfile has fixed a bug in the ksendfilenetclient::sendFile related to getting status code 531, added a Resend Function, and fixed another bug in ksendfilenetclient::sendfile function related to the date. The program now sends the file date instead of the actual system date.
