As a recommendation, the developer offers LBreakout2, which features an original level set that might work better for you. Interestingly, the reason for still keeping LBreakout available is to provide context to the 2 in LBreakout2.

The game has modest requirements, which include X11 and SDL (1.0 or better). To install the game, follow these basic steps: first, type './configure,' and based on your preferences, options include '--disable-sound' for no sound, or '--disable-install' if you want to play from the source directory. Once that's done, type 'make,' become root by typing 'sudo su,' and then type 'make install'; this step is only mandatory if 'install' is not disabled. Finally, type 'lbreakout' to play the game.
