LCDTicker is a software that functions as a news ticker appropriate for LCDproc use.
LCDTicker is a new software program designed for users of LCDproc. This program is a newsticker that extracts news from an RSS newsserver and displays it on your LCD screen. Unfortunately, at the moment, LCDTicker only supports the first line on your display - this is because I currently only have a one line display.
Installation of LCDTicker is a simple process. All you need to do is extract the archive, type "make" and "make install" (as root), and copy lcdticker.conf to /etc by running "cp lcdticker.conf /etc". If you want LCDTicker to automatically start on system start up, you will need to copy lcdtickerd to /etc/init.d and create a symlink to /etc/rc2.d as an example. This can easily be achieved by running the code: "ln -s /etc/inid.d/lcdtickerd /etc/rc2.d/S89lcdtickerd". Similarly, for shutdown, create another symlink by running: "ln -s /etc/init.d/lcdtickerd /etc/rc0.d/K10lcdtickerd".
The latest release of LCDTicker includes some additional features. These include the introduction of a new argument: "-c" path to load the config file, changing the default path of the config file from HOMEDIR/.lcdticker/lcdticker.conf to /etc/lcdticker.conf, changing the path to load the news file from HOMEDIR/.lcdticker to /tmp, and the addition of an init.d start script. Finally, the latest release also includes a comprehensive changelog.
