Lexica is a graphical user interface (GUI) that can be used to operate Unix/Linux dictionary resources. This software has been implemented in Tcl/Tk (version 8.0 or better) and provides access to various dictionary resources, which includes:

- Dict: client for the Dictionary Server Protocol (DICT). It helps users to get access to dictionary definitions from a set of natural language dictionary databases, which has been developed by Rik Faith ([email protected]).
- Wn: command line interface for the WordNet lexical database created at Princeton University. There is also a Tcl/Tk interface to this database known as the wb WordNet Browser, which was developed by David Slomin.
- Grep: a standard Unix tool used for finding patterns in text files, which can be utilized to search for words in word lists.

Some key features of Lexica software include automatic configuration, direct access to all the options provided by dict, choice of wn search strategy in a menu, choice of word list for use with grep, and personal configuration. Amongst others, users may add and remove their word lists to the selection menu, which is available in the personal configuration option.

In terms of requirements, the software requires Tcl/Tk version 8.0 or better and at least one of dict, wn, or grep and access to suitable databases. Installation and configuration are simple, users only need to get the lexica package (a gziped-tar file), unpack it, and then edit the lexica file to update necessary paths, set initial positions for main window, sub-windows, set interface colours, and set other options.

In summary, Lexica is a comprehensive software that provides user-friendly access to various dictionary resources. It also comes with customization options to suit individual preferences.
