LibGx

LibGx is an exceptional C++ widget library that provides the functionality for writing X11 applications, more importantly for Linux. It is a lightweight and non-intrusive library that fits in perfectly with various *nix programming models. With LibGx, a programmer has the option to use the simple internal event loop for applications or different techniques to service X11 needs within the application via select, threading, etc.

What sets LibGx apart is its novelty in how it is built directly on top of Xlib, without wrappering Xlib itself. Programmers can use Xlib for its drawing routines and Xlib structures when programming with or extending LibGx. Additionally, LibGx uses and exposes the X event queue and doesn't have its own internal event scheme or type.

LibGx has been used for several years and is fully usable for real applications. To use it, extract the archive, and download and extract libCb and libTmr in the libGx directory. However, you could choose to extract them elsewhere and create libCb/libTmr symbolic links to them. Configure and compile libCb and libTmr before configuring and compiling libGx.
