The Lick Machine, also known as the Midi Performance Machine, is a software that enables musicians to conduct an electronic orchestra through fully controllable sequences using Midi controllers. The Lick Machine uses performance setups that allow the user to trigger and "drive" a group of prerecorded sequences, called Licks. With just one key press from a Midi keyboard, a complex series of musical events can be triggered.
This software is very suitable for expanding the possibilities of other Midi controllers such as Midi guitars and Midi wind controllers. Additionally, a performance setup can be organized in presets that group sequences, and each preset can send special Midi messages to your synth(s) including program changes, controller values, system exclusive, and more.
The Lick Machine also includes a sequencer part in which Licks can be recorded and edited. Once a Lick has been recorded, it can be assigned to the key it should be triggered from, and by playing this key, the Lick will start playing. While playing, the performance parameters of that Lick can be controlled by specific Midi events that can be defined in the "Key Info" window.
Some key features of the Lick Machine include the ability to control the tempo, midi velocity, starting point, length, transposition, note density, pitch deviation, time deviation, and more of the Licks being used. It also allows for up to 2048 Licks to run at the same time, the importing of Midi files to use as 'Licks,' and parameter control by any Midi event for each assigned 'Lick' individually.
