lifstat

I recently had the opportunity to test out a small Linux utility called lifstat. This handy tool reads from the /proc/net/dev file and provides insightful input and output statistics for network interfaces. The process was quite simple to get started with; all I had to do was edit the Makefile to change PREFIX from the default /usr/local if I wanted to. After that, I ran the following commands:

$ make
($ su)
$ make install

I was pleasantly surprised by the comprehensive data that lifstat provided. It's clear that the developers put a lot of thought into making sure the user interface was easy to navigate and the visuals were easy on the eyes. I also appreciated that the developers made it possible to display multiple interfaces at once by adding extra "-i interface" arguments.

Overall, I think lifstat is a great addition to any Linux toolkit. It's user-friendly and provides valuable insight into the performance of your network interfaces. I would definitely recommend this software to anyone who needs to monitor their network traffic on a regular basis.
