Developed by Greg Paperin
LiveGraph is a powerful real-time graph plotter that enables developers to monitor and visualize their application's data in real-time. With its LiveGraph Writer API, you can easily compute and log results to a CSV file and watch as LiveGraph effortlessly plots charts and graphs from the data. This software project was developed in the academic domain and is currently widely used for research purposes.

An impressive feature of LiveGraph is that it is an open source software, meaning it is completely free. The software consists of three main components, including a data file definition for transferable data log files. LiveGraph uses a file format closely based on CSV but also includes a few minor, yet important, extensions such as data column header definitions, and file description annotations.

The second component is an easy-to-use Java writer/logger API that provides developers with a fast and efficient way to log data generated by their applications into LiveGraph's CSV files. Even developers who use other programming languages can create appropriate data files using their own routines.

Lastly, there is the LiveGraph plotter application. It reads the LiveGraph data file (or any other CSV file) and plots the data series contained within on the screen. The most unique feature of LiveGraph is that it can automatically re-examine the data file at short intervals and continuously update the graphs on the screen. This feature works efficiently using specialized caching techniques, making it ideal even for large and fast-growing data files.

LiveGraph's interactive and rapid update capabilities allow developers to visualize their application results instantly, while it is still running. By having a complete data log, developers can retrieve insights on their application's runtime and delete it later if not needed. For more detailed features and tool comparisons, you can refer to the section "Why LiveGraph?" available on the software platform.

The user manual provides a description of the functionalities of LiveGraph from the desktop user's point of view, while the developer manual includes all the necessary details a developer needs to start using LiveGraph with their applications. Overall, LiveGraph is an impressive software project that improves the efficiency of data visualization and monitoring, ideal for research and other academic needs.
