MATRIX

I recently had the pleasure of reviewing Matrix, a state-of-the-art Vocoder software that is sure to impress any audio enthusiast. If you're unfamiliar with what a Vocoder is, let me give you a brief history lesson. The Vocoder was first invented by Homer Dudley in the mid-30's while he worked at Bell Laboratories.

So, what does a Vocoder do, you ask? The basic function involves analyzing an input signal - typically speech, but other types of inputs work too. The input signal then goes through a specialized filter bank, where spectral analysis is performed, and signals are generated that follow the amount of spectral energy in each channel. The analyzer also checks for voiced and unvoiced sounds at any given moment and identifies the pitch of the voiced sounds. The output section of the vocoder includes a stereophonic synthesis filter bank that combines the filter envelopes created during the analysis stage with either an external or internal replacement signal to create new synthetic speech.

Back to Matrix. Upon using it, I immediately noticed how user-friendly the software was. It allowed me to create customized sounds effortlessly. The software's robust spectral analysis and synthesis filter banks gave me complete control over my sound. I also appreciated how Matrix enhances and expands the capabilities of its analog counterpart. Ultimately, if you're in the market for a top-of-the-line Vocoder software, I highly recommend giving Matrix a try.
