I recently tried out mjhservers, a project consisting of highly configurable event-driven servers for FTP, POP3, LMTP, TACACS+, and other protocols. With modular authentication sub-system, SSL, and IPv6 support, mjhservers boasts scalable and efficient servers that can easily compile for recent versions of Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, and Solaris.
The mjhservers package includes various daemons such as spawnd, an IP, UNIX, or IPv6 socket broker with load-balancing functionality, ftpd, a highly configurable FTP daemon with TLS/SSL and IPv6 support, pop3d, an event-driven POP3 daemon, lmtpd, an event-driven LMTP daemon, and mavis and mavisd, which implement the modular authentication sub-system used by ftpd, pop3d et al.
Mjhservers even includes a tac_plus daemon, an event-driven TACACS+ daemon which utilizes the MAVIS backend for authentication and authorization. Its user data may also come from LDAP, as a tacacs.schema suitable for OpenLDAP is included. The package also features tcprelay, an event-driven TCP connection forwarder, and tcpmapd, an experimental daemon that interfaces the MAVIS system to Postfix.
