MLayout is a software tool that helps designers create page layouts with the added advantage of Quartz PDF rendering technology. It makes designing and printing documents a breeze with its user-friendly interface and efficient functionalities.
The user interface is designed to cater to the needs of designers, making it effortless to use. With its direct to web publishing feature, users can publish their documents in real-time. This software also uses APE Lite©2002-2005, Unsanity LLC.
The key features of MLayout 2 include the use of XML-aware design templates called DesignModel, real-time layout change through DesignModels, support for XML and tagged RTF, and automatic pagination of XML data. It also supports efficient handling of images (GIM), placing objects in step & repeat fashion (Matrix), and vertical writing for Asian languages like Japanese rubi. This software also comes with many paragraph & character styles with several options, providing flexibility to its users. It is also extensible through Apple's plug-in technology.
The only limitation of MLayout 2 is its 30-day demo. However, the latest release of this software, which comes with several updates and bug fixes, will surely impress users. Among the fixed bugs are those related to overlapped text when there are multiple objects in a text box, disappearing character style sheet when a library element with an embedded character style sheet is imported into a document, among others.
To run MLayout 2, you need to have Mac OS X 10.3.3 or above and 256MB RAM. Despite its limitations, MLayout 2 proves to be a reliable and efficient page layout software suitable for both professional and personal use.
