The monq.jfa library is a Java class library used as the core component in implementing Whatizit. This project is a powerful tool for text filtering using regular expressions. While java.util.regex is one option, monq.jfa offers more flexibility and speed. It allows users to bind a regular expression to an action, which is automatically executed when a match is found in an input stream. Moreover, users can combine numerous regex/action pairs into one mechanism known as DFA.
DFA filters input to output by scanning for matches of all regular expressions simultaneously, calling their actions to modify the text or even construct a data structure. Even with the addition of numerous regex/action pairs, the filtering speed is still high at 1.5MB/s on P4 2.6GHz.
In the latest release, a bug was identified and fixed related to the unsynchronized reuse of an object within monq.jfa.actions.Printf. The problem may have been causing garbled output, but this update eliminates the issue. Overall, monq.jfa is a powerful and fast tool for text filtering with regular expressions.
