Developed by Andreas Kemnade
Mumpot is a GTK mapping software that allows users to edit OpenStreetMap data and more using basic tools. It is designed for mobile Linux-equipped devices and has been tested on GPE installation on an iPAQ2200 and the Openmoko platform. Note that this software is still in beta.

To use Mumpot, simply use the following commands: mumpot-tah, mumpot-mapnik or mumpot-cyclemap. These files contain configuration files so that Mumpot can load tiles@home and Mapnik tiles. If you start Mumpot directly, it will look for the map.conf file in ~/.mumpot/ and if it is not found, a dialog will prompt you to choose between the three maps.

If you plan to use the place search box, you must generate the corresponding text file first. Simply use the following command: bzcat some_osm_dump.osm.bz2 | osm2places /dev/stdin >~/.mumpot/places.txt. This works even with the big planet.osm.bz2.

Mumpot offers convenient mouse handling for route planning mode. You can draw lines on the map to mark your route and add points using the left mouse button or touchscreen. Hold down the shift button to remove the last point with the right button. Use the middle button to set an endpoint. You can also delete everything in the current line layer by clicking the left button again.

For touchscreen users, you can delete the last point by moving your finger from right to left on the screen. To delete everything on the current line layer, move your finger from bottom to top. Hold down the ctrl key while moving the mouse along the line to see the distance. Additionally, you can center the map by clicking the right mouse button while holding down the shift key.

Lastly, Mumpot allows you to calculate routes by holding down the shift key and clicking on the starting point. A red line will follow through the streets your mouse pointer, and when you click on a point again, the destination is set. Overall, Mumpot is a useful tool for mobile Linux-equipped devices with an interest in open mapping.
