March 6, 2006
mysqlPostfix is a subsystem that can be standalone or managed by mysqlISP. It can run multiple postfix mail servers, ranging from 1 to hundreds of them.

License GPL
Platform Linux
Supported Languages English

Developed by openISP
mysqlPostfix is a versatile subsystem that can run either as a standalone or as a managed mysqlISP tool for running one or more postfix mail servers. The software is designed to offer an affordable yet highly-scalable anti-virus and anti-spam mail gateway as a frontend to mysqlSendmail servers or other final destination servers that support imap, pop3, or webmail protocols.

To help users build highly-redundant mail systems for both small and large business applications, a free whitepaper is soon to be released on the openisp.net website. This whitepaper will cover various aspects of building a scalable and fault-tolerant mail system with linux, postfix, spamassassin, clamAV, and sendmail.

For successful installation of the mysqlPostfix software, users must have the mySQL server and client libs installed and running on the application server. Furthermore, users must know the root password to complete the installation process. To ensure successful installation, paranoid users should check the install script in the mainfunc.h file.

For custom configurations, users can change the useradd/userdel and usermod commands to match their system. To do this, users should examine the relevant mysqlPostfix configuration entries for details.

To be able to use the software, users must have a running Apache server on the same server with CGI capabilities. Ideally, SSL should be enabled. Recommended settings include using the openisp httpd daemon on a non-standard port number such as 9023 for non-SSL and 8045 for SSL connections. Users should also note that MD5 support requires at least glibc2.

The following Bash instructions should help users install the mysqlPostfix software quickly and easily:

1. tar xzf mysqlPostfixN.M.tar.gz
2. cd mysqlPostfix
3. export CGIDIR=/apache/cgi-bin/ (or whatever your Apache cgi-bin dir is)
4. vi local.h
5. vi makefile
6. make (or "# SSL=1 make" if you are using mysql libraries compiled with OpenSSL)
7. make install
8. export ISMROOT=/home/joe (or whatever directory the mysql application project folder/dir is in)
9. chown mysql data
10. chmod o+x $ISMROOT
11. /cgi-bin/mysqlPostfix.cgi Initialize

Once successfully installed and set up, users can log in to the system as user "Root" with password "wsxedc". With its scalable and fault-tolerant design, mysqlPostfix is an excellent anti-virus and anti-spam mail gateway that can cater to both small and large business applications.
