Olearia

Olearia is a software project written entirely in Cocoa/Objective-C, specifically designed to cater to Mac OS X users who seek versatility in talking books. Its main feature lies in its ability to support both Daisy and other talking book formats. The recent accessibility and code generation improvements in Leopard (OS X 10.5) have made Olearia much more potent and reliable compared to prior versions. As such, it is only available for users with 10.5 and newer versions of the OS.

Presently, Olearia provides support for Daisy V3 (ANSI/NISO Z39.86-2005) books, as well as DAISY version 2.02 with audio content. The caveat, however, is that text-only books are not yet supported. Rest assured, the development team is continuously working to introduce new format variations, such as the addition of Bookshare, to make it more accessible to its user base.

Overall, Olearia is an excellent option for users who rely on talking books, particularly those on the Mac OS X platform. Even with its present limitations in terms of unsupported formats, it provides an incredible user experience and will undoubtedly continue to evolve with further development.
