Open Mortal is a fantastic parody of the once hugely popular coin-up fighting game, Mortal Kombat. This game is accessible on both Windows and Linux and is continuously playable with 16 playable characters plus a few more currently being developed. The best part of the game is that new characters can be added so that you can act as an Open Mortal actor sharing your ideas with the world!
OpenMortal is a free game that has been released under the GNU General Public Licence. There have been lots of new additions to Open Mortal since the initial release. In this new release, OpenMortal now runs in high or true color video mode (not just the old 256-color mode). There are now transparent shadows, "team mode" where both players can pick many fighters into a team and when a fighter dies, the next fighter in the team replaces them.
There are also new (non-proprietary) sound effects to add to your experience. Additionally, a new character named Judy has been added, and there is one new arena that you can play in. Lastly, on 2004-04-20, there is a new binary self-installing package specifically for MacOS X, bringing its compatibility up to date.
