Open5066

Open5066 is a software application that implements the NATO NC3A STANAG 5066 protocol stack for HF radio communications in an open source format. This project strives to implement all of the SIS functionality (Annex A), DTS (Annex C), and some of the application layer functionality (Annex F) such as HMTP. Further enhancements will include the implementation of a crypto module and potentially a softmodem for some waveforms such as S-4285 or S-4529, with the possibility of seamless integration with softmodems from other open source projects.

The concrete embodiment of Open5066 is the s5066d daemon, which is still in the early phase of development. Major feature enhancements and debugging are currently underway, making it advisable for only those with C debugging skills and a willingness to contribute to attempt to use the program at this time.

Although Open5066 is currently only available for Linux, work is being done to eventually support other UNIX systems. Solaris 8 with /dev/poll will likely be the first port attempted. To install Open5066, simply unpack the tar file, cd into the s5066d directory, execute the make command, and copy the s5066d daemon to /usr/sbin. It is expected that within a month or two, a system that is usable in limited ways will be available for use.
