OpenWindows Augmented Compatibility Environment

If you're a user of Solaris 9 or 10 and are missing the older OpenWindows Deskset environment, then the OpenWindows Augmented Compatibility Environment (OWacomp) might be the solution for you. It allows you to use the older environment on newer versions of Solaris. Additionally, if you need to compile XView, OLIT, or DevGuide applications on either Solaris 9 or Solaris 10 then this package may be of some help.

OWacomp is available for Solaris 9 for Sparc and i86pc, as well as Solaris 10 for Sparc and i86pc. It includes mostly a re-packaged version of Solaris 8 OpenWindows SUNWol binary packages and patches, along with extra XView tools used by the author over the years that others might find useful. Suggestions for expanding this list are welcomed.

Please note that the source code to the original OpenWindows binaries is (c) SUN Microsystems Inc. and is not available. The rebuilt packages are only what they are: rebuilds of packages consisting of packaged binaries built by SUN Microsystems Inc. The source code to some of the applications, such as dumptool and rootmenu, is under NDA with the author and will not be provided. However, the source code to other applications, including xvset, olvwm, pantool, and disktool is available in the SUNWolsrc package.

In the latest release of OWacomp, version 1.0b3, types.xdr (ToolTalk) has been added back. Overall, if you're looking to use the older OpenWindows Deskset environment on Solaris 9 or 10 or need to compile XView, OLIT, or DevGuide applications on these operating systems, then OWacomp might be worth considering.
