Orb

Orb is a free Yahoo widget that can be used to monitor various sources, such as your CPU load or stock market trends, via a simple and elegant globe design. The widgets come packed with three pre-configured sources, namely your computer's CPU load, the percentage gain/loss of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, and your unread mail.

If you want to use any of these pre-configured sources, all you have to do is simply select them from the Source menu available in the widget preferences. By monitoring the System Activity, you can get a visual insight into your computer's level of activity as the blue globe transforms into a more intense shade of red as your computer starts working harder.

On the other hand, if you choose to monitor the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the globe will change from red to gold to green based on the fluctuations in the market. The Mail source, on the other hand, starts with a white globe that turns blue when you receive messages and gradually turns into a deeper shade of red as you accumulate more messages.
