XPostFacto software enables installation of Mac OS X on older computers, a product of Other World Computing.

If you're a Mac OS X user, you may have noticed that Apple doesn't offer support for machines that originally came with a G3 or G4 processor. But don't worry - with a bit of effort, you can still install Mac OS X on some older machines.
The unsupported but compatible machines include 7300, 7500, 7600, 8500, 8600, 9500 and 9600, as well as clones based on these systems such as the Umax S900 and J700, and the Power Computing Power Wave and PowerTower Pro. The original processors in these machines will work, except for the 7500 which requires an upgrade. G3 or G4 upgrade cards are also compatible.
While other models with PCI architecture may also work in the future, Version 4 of Other World Computing's XPostFacto currently supports Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), but further testing is required. It's important to note that installing Mac OS X 10.4 may pose some issues which are not immediately apparent, so it's best to have a good backup option in place before installation.
The latest version of XPostFacto includes support for Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), and can be run on Mac OS 9.x or 10.2 through 10.4. It can install Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.4 versions and is compatible with "New World" machines that Apple has dropped support for in 10.4, including the original iMac, original iBook, and the Lombard Powerbook.
Interestingly, this release avoids the misapplication of the 8GB limit on "Old World" machines by the Mac OS X Installer. If you're looking to install Mac OS X on an old machine, XPostFacto is worth checking out.
