Overslack is a game that simulates the experience of using a slackline.
Overslack is a slackline simulator/game that allows users to simulate a configurable model world containing a slackline, a slacker, and ground. The user controls the slacker using the mouse, and just like real slacklining, there is no predefined goal, but the time spent on the line is tracked. The simulated world is limited to two dimensions, and the speed is assumed to be slow, neglecting air resistance.
To calculate the time evolution, the Law of Motion is applied numerically as many times as the machine can handle. You can configure the speed of the simulated world, allowing you to run it five times as slow or as fast as the real world. The ground in the simulation is bouncy and does not cause injuries, making it a bit unrealistic but more enjoyable.
The simulated line behaves according to a simple model with an ideal spring between the line's point of equilibrium and the slacker's feet, approximating some friction by having a different spring constant for extension and compression. You can fully configure the line's behavior, from an ideal spring to an old, tired, and non-elastic line.
The slacker is controlled with the mouse by moving it up to crouch, down to extend the legs, right to lower your right arm and raise your left, and vice versa. The slacker is infinitely fast and strong, instantly moving to any new position regardless of the force and energy required. You can jump off the line, land on it again, and even bounce on the ground in between.
In addition to the line, slacker, and on-screen numerical physical information, vectors visualizing location (white), speed (green), and acceleration (red), both translational and rotational, are shown. Overall, Overslack offers a fun and configurable way to simulate slacklining without leaving your computer.
