Parallel Network Scanner

If you need a fast network services scanner, Parallel Network Scanner is a great option. It uses multithreading to speed up the process of scanning TCP network services. One of the advantages of pnscan is that it will determine the number of threads needed for scanning dynamically. The scanner will start only as many threads as required to make progress in the scan.

There are two ways to specify host ranges with pnscan. You can use CIDR notation, which stands for network name or IP address/mask bit length, or a range. When using CIDR notation, the first and last addresses are ignored. The maximum number of threads that can be used is either specified with the "-n" command line option or as 8 minus the maximum number of available file descriptors.

There are several examples of how to use pnscan provided. For instance, you can scan the 192.168.0.0/24 network for SSH daemons on port 22. Another example is scanning hosts 192.168.10.34 through 98 for IDENT servers, using a maximum of 8 threads.

In addition to scanning for specific servers or ports, pnscan can also work with binary data. It can send binary data and expect a specific binary sequence in return. Finally, pnscan can scan for specific server types, such as Roxen or pidentd servers.

The latest release of pnscan has added the option to modify threads startup code to dynamically start only as many threads as needed. Additionally, the release notes have been updated to include all other options implemented in pnscan.c.
