PDF/X Overprint Expert

Global Graphics recently released a free and user-friendly overprint control strip for verifying the accuracy of proofs and prints generated from PDF/X files. As the use of PDF/X standards increases in the delivery of graphic arts content from one company or site to another, this tool is becoming more valuable to users. A file transmitted in accordance with these standards is generally processed through prepress workflows without any errors with more predictable results compared to general PDF files.

It's essential to note, however, that the predictability of PDF/X standards is due to more than just file formats. They also specify proper render behavior of files in RIPs, driving proofing printers, image setters, and CTP devices. Global Graphics' PDF/X overprint control strip is presented as an EPS file that users can place outside the bleed or trim space in a job via an application for graphic design.

Afterwards, when the job is transformed into one of the PDF/X conformance levels then proofed or printed, the strip reveals whether or not the rendering process for that proofing or prepress system is configured to conform to PDF/X standards.
