Pdns

Pdns is an incredibly useful graphical user interface (GUI) administration tool that allows you to maintain domains and their corresponding DNS records with ease. This project makes it easy to create new domains, as well as modify or delete existing ones.

Built on the TrollTech Qt tool kit and QcjData classes, Pdns is designed to work with the Postgres database, but it should be usable with any database that both pdns and Qt can handle.

Building and installing Pdns is extremely straightforward. After unpacking the tar file, simply navigate to the appropriate directory and execute the commands qmake pdns.pro and make. That's all it takes to build the executable.

Installation is equally easy. Once you've built Pdns, you can save the executable file wherever works best for you. From there, copy either pdns.xml or pdns-postgres.xml to one of the following locations: ~/.pdns.xml, ~/.xml/pdns.xml, or /opt/pdns/default_forms.xml. Alternatively, you can simply name the file pdns.xml and copy it to the location of the executable.

Before you can start using Pdns, you'll need to execute a bit of SQL to create a view linking the records table and domains table. If you're using the Postgres database, you'll also need to create a view and associated rules that allow the application to operate with it instead of the domains table. Be sure to choose the appropriate SQL file (pdns.sql or pdns-postgres.sql) and execute it before launching the application.
