The name Phuzby was inspired by Buzby, a multi-colored animated bird who was the hero of a long-running British Post Office Telephones publicity drive from the late 1970s to early 1980s. However, to avoid any confusion or potential litigation, Phuzby distinguishes itself with a unique name and identity.
Phuzby requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.5 or later and Systray4j for building the project. After modifying the LDAP settings in Main.java, users can quickly compile and build the project. It may be necessary to copy the systray4j.dll and systray4j.jar files into the distribution folder along with the icon files in order to run the application. Note that the task tray icon is only supported on Windows and Linux in KDE3.
In the latest release, Phuzby integrates with the desktop environment more fully thanks to a move to JDK 1.6. The upgrade enables desktop entegration for email launch, and allows the software to use Sun's multi-platform task tray support instead of systray4j.
