I recently had the opportunity to use powEEErsave, a software designed to help users control various power-saving settings on their Asus EEE-PC. The program is a small python/pyqt4 GUI and provides users with the ability to control and query the status of the camera, sound, WLAN, LAN, USB 1.1, fan, and CPU.
One of the features I appreciated most was the ability to store settings in presets. This allowed me to quickly switch between battery-saving, high-performance, and low-power modes, among others. For someone who uses their device on-the-go and needs to extend battery life, this is an incredibly helpful feature.
Using powEEErsave is simple. Once the script is started, the user is prompted to enter their root password. It's worth noting that the program doesn't constantly query the status of all hardware, which means that if the user wants to update the current status, they'll need to click on the "Query Status" button.
The program saves presets in the file "HOME/.config/grh.mur.at/poweeersave.conf," with HOME typically being "/root" as powEEErsave requires superuser permissions to run. Overall, powEEErsave is an excellent option for EEE-PC users looking to maximize battery life and optimize performance.
