Power Mask

Power Mask is a powerful software tool that allows you to extract almost any object in an image in real-time. It is a highly interactive tool that can even extract fine details like hair, smoke, and reflections effortlessly. With Power Mask, you can extract a mask or final composite instantly as you paint along the boundary of the object to be extracted.

The extraction process creates a "mask," which is essentially a black and white cutout of the object. The white areas of the mask represent the extracted regions, while the black areas are not extracted. The gray areas indicate a level of transparency. Once you have extracted the mask, you can seamlessly composite the foreground object onto a new background in Adobe Photoshop. Additionally, you can apply filter and image corrections only within the area defined by the mask.

Compared to previous approaches, Power Mask is more efficient and requires minimal effort to extract high-quality masks for foregrounds with significant semi-transparent regions. The software estimates the foreground edge colors in the semi-transparent areas to create a seamless composite.

Power Mask offers a real-time, interactive environment that makes masking a much easier and efficient process. However, it operates only in the RGB colorspace and requires Adobe Photoshop (Mac) 7.0 or above. It also requires a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 and 1.0 GB RAM to process up to 8-megapixel images or 1.5 GB RAM to process up to 12-megapixel images.
