When it comes to shutting down your Mac, there's a nifty shortcut called Ctrl+Eject that does the job quickly and easily. For those on older Apple keyboards, this means hitting two keys on opposite diagonal corners of the keyboard, followed by Return. However, the new Apple Aluminium Keyboard has the eject key in a less convenient location, in the middle of the top row of keys. Instead, ProShutdown offers a solution that restores the opposite corners shortcut by listening for Ctrl+F19 and displaying a shutdown dialog when these keys are pressed.

This free software also includes a small 'F19' icon that appears in the menu bar as a reminder that the shortcut is available. If you don't want this icon to appear, simply press Ctrl+F18 to hide or bring it back. Overall, ProShutdown is a useful tool for those who prefer the convenience of the shortcut keys on older Apple keyboards, and its user-friendly interface makes it easy to use for everyone.
