PyBeat is an excellent open-source client/server program designed to stream media files over the internet. It is worth noting that PyBeat does not use any form of authentication on the connection between the server and the client. This situation means that any connection that you create needs to be firewalled correctly. Additionally, when you acquire new music worth listening to, make sure to update both your remote and local databases.
The code in PyBeat is not quite a 1.0 release yet and needs some refactoring. Therefore, users should not expect it to be perfect. However, with a little more work, it can come closer to this goal.
