PyMM is a Python-based MP3 Manager that helps manage music files efficiently. It simplifies the process of organizing, searching, and playing MP3 files.
PyMM is a highly functional MP3 Manager developed with Python programming language. Whether you're a musician or simply an avid MP3 listener, this software has everything you need to organize your music collection. With PyMM, you can effortlessly create playlists, edit ID3 tags, and search your music library with ease.
Previously, I used the MP3 Manager application on Windows. Since then, I've switched to Unix and was in need of a similar program to manage my MP3 collection. While searching for a decent platform, I came across PyMM, which I must say, is an absolute treasure. One of the additional advantages of switching to PyMM and Unix is that I had the opportunity to learn about wxPython; a highly intuitive windowing toolkit.
Using PyMM, you'll be able to manage your music collection, create playlists, and even control the XMMS player. As well as all the necessary features for handling your music library, you can also edit ID3 tags and much more.
If you wish to use PyMM, there are two installation options available. The first is to run "python setup.py install." This method requires access to the Python installation tree with write permission. After installing, a startup script will appear in the Python bin directory. Then, start the program by typing "pymm." This option requires a Python version of 2.0/1.6 or the presence of Distutils.
The second option is to store the PyMM directory anywhere you wish and start the program using "python pymm.py." Furthermore, you can make a link to the pymm.py script in a bin directory by typing "ln -s /pymm.py /usr/local/bin/pymm."
In this latest release, the PyMM team has added a few new features to enhance the program's usability. The notable additions include the display of total time of track to status bar within the Timer.Notify function in pymm.py and get_playlist_time(pos) within the xmms.py function. Overall, PyMM remains my favorite MP3 Manager, packed with features and easy to use interface.
