The QMC2 project is a MAME frontend that is based on Qt 4 and is compatible with both XMAME and SDLMAME. QMC2, also known as the M.A.M.E. Catalog/Launcher II, is known as the successor to QMamecat, one of the earliest MAME GUI frontends that was based on XMAMECAT.
QMamecat was based on Qt 2, and development stopped in 2003. However, QMC2 has been built entirely from scratch as a Qt 4 project. While QMC2 takes some inspiration from its predecessor, it is more than just a remake.
The new design is much more flexible and avoids some of the major deficiencies of QMamecat, such as its reliance on frontend- and CLI-related MAME changes. QMC2 uses a template-based MAME configuration scheme that can easily be enhanced with additional command-line options outlined in an XML template file.
