Developed by Daniel Etzold
Qtella is a peer-to-peer client that operates using the Gnutella protocol, which has become increasingly popular for sharing files across decentralized networks. The main advantage of this type of network is that it does not rely on a central server, which helps to avoid points of failure. Instead, every client acts as both a client and a server, which are commonly referred to as servents. However, the drawback of this type of network is that connecting to it can take longer.

Qtella is a servent client that has been designed specifically for Linux and the Gnutella network. It comes packed with a wide range of useful features, many of which were suggested by Qtella users themselves. The software is written in C++ and utilizes the Qt libraries. In addition to being available for Linux/Unix, there is also a developer version for the Sharp Zaurus.

While a Win32 version of the software is currently in development, the alpha version that is currently available is very unstable. Among the key features of the Qtella software are the display of incoming searches, logging of errors, warnings, and infos, the ability to rename files and move downloads to different directories, and statistics of connections and session.

Other standout features include the ability to select different styles and fonts, show download status in a download tab using colored balls, block specified hosts, fast connection mechanism, multiple search, the ability to continue interrupted downloads and uploads, limit the number of downloads and uploads, and limit upload bandwidth, amongst others.

Users can also separate unfinished downloads from finished ones, download several files at once, test whether a file already exists, identify download servers, automatically retry if errors occur, maintain an auto connect list, integrate with KDE, and save host lists. Additionally, the software can handle extended Gnutella protocol, display status lines and statistics, accept incoming connections, download from firewalled hosts, cache pongs to reduce network traffic, and utilize advanced search options such as "+" for words that must exist and "-" for words that must not. The software also supports resuming interrupted downloads.
