Developed by Stefano Faraone
QtSwaret is a Swaret Front-End based on QT Libraries. The installation process is quite straightforward, and the ‘configure’ shell script is used to guess the correct values for various system-dependent variables required during the compilation process. These values are used to create a ‘Makefile’ in each directory of the package, along with one or more ‘.h’ files containing system-dependent definitions. Additionally, a shell script ‘config.status’ is created which can be used to recreate the current configuration in the future.

The ‘config.cache’ file, which saves test results to speed up reconfiguring, is also created along with ‘config.log’, which contains compiler output for debugging purposes. In case there is a need to do anything unusual to compile the package, instructions should be mailed to the given address in the ‘README’, so that they can be considered for future releases. Users can remove or edit the ‘config.cache’ file if there are results that they no longer want to keep.

‘configure.in’ is used to create ‘configure’ by a program called ‘autoconf’. The package can be compiled by going to the directory containing the source code and typing ‘./configure’ to configure the package for the system. If using ‘csh’ on an old version of System V, typing ‘sh ./configure’ instead can prevent ‘configure’ from trying to execute by itself.

Compiling the code involves three steps - ‘make’ to compile the package, ‘make install’ to install the programs and associated data files along with the documentation, and ‘make clean’ to remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory.

Users on systems with unusual compilation or linking requirements can give ‘configure’ initial values for variables by setting them in the environment. These variables can be set through command line instructions like ‘CC=c89 CFLAGS=-O2 LIBS=-lposix ./configure’ or by using the ‘env’ program like ‘env CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/local/include LDFLAGS=-s ./configure’.

This release of QtSwaret brings a new version of the package with useful additions like the completely functional ‘List Upgradable’ option, along with a secure SlackBox, making it a reliable choice for anyone looking for an efficient Swaret Front-End.
